Payment in Installments with Sezzle

1. Overview of Sezzle’s Service

Sezzle is a buy now, pay later (BNPL) service provided by Sezzle Inc. ("Sezzle"), a U.S.-based financing company. This service allows Vanpackers’ customers to split their purchase into four interest-free installments, paid every two weeks, subject to Sezzle’s approval.

Sezzle is not a Quebec financial institution: It is an independent payment provider governed by U.S. laws. The repayment terms (schedule, fees for late payments) are determined solely by Sezzle, not by Vanpackers. We are not responsible for Sezzle’s approval decisions, repayment terms, or any disputes arising from the financing agreement.

2. Eligibility Requirements

To use Sezzle’s installment payment service, customers must:

  • Be at least 18 years old (the age of majority in Quebec).
  • Reside in Canada or in the USA (or a province where Sezzle operates).
  • Have a valid Sezzle account and a registered payment method (debit or credit card, or bank account).
  • Have their application approved by Sezzle after a soft credit check (which does not impact the customer’s credit score).

Exclusions:

  • Business-to-business (B2B) transactions.
  • Products or services excluded from financing by Sezzle (e.g., gift cards, subscriptions, or restricted items).
  • Orders exceeding 2500 CAD

3. How Sezzle Installment Payments Work

  • Payment Method Selection: The customer chooses "Sezzle" as their payment method during checkout on Vanpackers’ website.
  • Sezzle Application: The customer is redirected to Sezzle’s platform to complete their application. Sezzle conducts a soft credit check (which does not affect the customer’s credit score) and provides an instant decision.
  • Approval of Financing: If approved, Sezzle pays the full purchase amount to Vanpackers upfront. The customer then agrees to repay Sezzle in four equal, interest-free installments, due every two weeks.
  • Denial of Financing: If denied, the customer must select an alternative payment method to complete their order. Vanpackers is not informed of the reason for denial.

4. Customer Obligations

By selecting Sezzle as a payment method, the customer:

  • Accepts Sezzle’s Terms and Conditions (available here), which prevail over these terms in case of conflict.
  • Agrees to repay Sezzle according to the agreed-upon schedule (four installments, due every two weeks).
  • Acknowledges that failure to make payments may result in:
    • Late fees (as per Sezzle’s terms, up to a maximum of $10 CAD per missed payment).
    • Suspension of their Sezzle account.
    • Collection efforts by Sezzle (in accordance with U.S. laws).
  • Authorizes Sezzle to automatically debit their registered payment method for installments.

5. Vanpackers’ Responsibilities

  • Vanpackers acts as an intermediary between the customer and Sezzle. We are not a party to the payment agreement and cannot modify its terms.
  • We commit to:
    • Transmitting the necessary information to Sezzle for order processing (amount, product description, etc.).
    • Complying with Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and other applicable Canadian laws.
  • We are not responsible for:
    • Sezzle’s approval or denial of financing.
    • Fees or penalties charged by Sezzle.
    • Disputes between the customer and Sezzle regarding repayment.
    • Consequences to the customer’s credit report (Sezzle does not report to credit bureaus unless an account is sent to collections).

6. Right of Withdrawal and Refunds

6.1 Right of Withdrawal (CPA, Sections 54–64)

Customers have a 10-day cooling-off period to cancel their purchase (from the date of receipt for goods or the conclusion of the contract for services). In case of withdrawal:

1. The customer must return the product in its original condition, at their own expense, by contacting Vanpackers’ customer service.

2. The customer must contact Sezzle to cancel their payment plan or adjust their repayment schedule:

3. Vanpackers will refund Sezzle, who will then credit the customer’s account. The customer remains responsible for any installments already debited by Sezzle until the balance is settled.

6.2 Refunds for Returns or Cancellations

  • If a product is returned or canceled, Vanpackers will refund Sezzle, who will adjust the customer’s balance.
  • The customer must follow Sezzle’s instructions to modify their repayment schedule.
